We’re headed fast into the holiday season but before we do, let’s have a look at November, shall we?
Before the month ends, we’re actually celebrating with a couple of VR events taking place TODAY, the first being at at 1:00 PM! The first is put on by BLAST Program, Discovery Foundation, Purpose Five, and The Vancouver VR Community (us!). It’s a FREE online lunchtime webinar, designed to introduce VR to newcomers, particularly women. The first session will feature Nicole Long, hailing from Seattle – a VR gamedev and designer, as well as an online instructor who shows the ropes of all things AR/VR/MR and Unity to newcomers. We’ll also have Jordan and Lee from Virtro Games touch on some of the business and technological potential. If you’ve got a friend you’ve been wanting to introduce to VR, join this free webinar together. REGISTER TODA-I MEAN NOW.
After today’s lunchtime webinar, be sure to hang out with our friends at the VRARA Vancouver Chapter. They’ll be putting on “Growing Innovation, Business Opportunities for VR/AR” at BCIT’s downtown campus. Food and drinks will be provided and will also feature demos by BioInteractive Technologies, Motive.io, BCIT, Conquer Mobile, PrecisionOS, and Virtro Entertainment. This event is future focused for our growing industry so be sure to be a part of the conversation! Full details on the event page. REGISTER TODAY and get $15 OFF with promo code “VRVAN”.
Some updates on the Vancouver VR Community before we head into local news and updates – As you know, we put on #VRDiversity. If you haven’t yet, check out the official recap! AND! We’ve got QUITE a few things up our sleeve but nothing is concrete now (although if you are on certain Discords, and Facebook events, you may be familiar with the rumours!). Once things get up and running, we’ll be posting to Discord, Facebook, and Twitter, so be sure you’re following us on ALL THE PLATFORMS! For now, here’s what we do have planned:
- A low key online get-together (attendance may be slim due to holiday busy-ness but that’s OK!)
- We are still planning and putting things in place for our non-profit status
- Our next event is aiming to be in February but nothing is set in stone
We need your help, Vancouver VR Community – When we do come back in 2018, we want to know what we’re doing right, what we should be focusing on, and what needs some TLC. Please fill out our survey: How did the Vancouver VR Community do in 2017?
November 2017 Highlights
Congratulations to Mythical City Games on their Skytropolis launch!
We are so happy for our friends at Mythical City Games – they had a launch party at Breakout VR in early November, and so many people came out to join in on the fun. Be sure to check out Skytropolis on Steam today!
8bit Goose Games’ sailing game process!
Kellen has been really active with posting on YouTube this month, revealing a lot of his process on design and creating his interactive sailing experience, as well as showing everything he’s done so far! Really great stuff, and so valuable for VR designers and developers.
DevPuppy shows us how to set up ARCore!
While trying to get a head start on getting Kitty Paradise onto Android, DevPuppy had to jump through a few hoops to get ARCore working. Thanks for saving us so much troubleshooting!
Evasion at IEM Oakland
We were drooling at home, while the Evasion team set up 4 demo stations on ONE PC. That’s right: one PC (18 core, i9, 36 threads, YEAH I KNOW RIGHT), powered 4 VR headsets without fail. Solid as a rock! Would be awesome to see if any CS:GO or PUBG players pick up Evasion in 2018, right?
Esports for VR – think about it!
VR is better with friends. This sex-tacular rainbow rig runs 4 @EvasionVR sessions on the same setup at #IEM Oakland 2017
Only the Intel Core i9-7980XE with 18 cores and 36 threads could handle such a task. #IntelPartner pic.twitter.com/CWpNhKvkyQ
